The Citadel of Anfeh is located on a peninsula
that is 400-meter long and 100-meter wide. That peninsula is known as "Raas
Anfeh".
The citadel is considered a Crusader remain, but it was an important place for many other civilizations. Many historical things like old graves, mosaic pieces, olive presses, and salt pans can be found in and around it.
The trench was for the east-side defense of the citadel. A rocky wall was for its wet-side defense. After it was destroyed by Al-Mamaleek in 1289, the citadel was attacked many times throughout history. Its rocks were used in old buildings, especially the old houses in Al-Mina (Tripoli, North Lebanon). People from many areas also visited it looking for gold and old fortunes.
Nowadays, tourists from all over the world visit the citadel. It is a beautiful place to take pictures, walk on the rocks, and sit very close to history and nature. All occupations and old civilizations are gone, but the Citadel of Anfeh is still there, hugging the sea and witnessing thousands of years of our nation's history. |
